About Sydney:
My name is Sydney McInnis (they/them).
My work has always centred around care, advocacy, and responding thoughtfully to change and uncertainty. Before becoming a doula, I spent years in different forms of care work, including nannying and one-on-one support work, alongside nearly a decade growing vegetables and managing on small-scale farms. Farming taught me a different but deeply related kind of care: how to work patiently with change, how to pay close attention, how to respond rather than control, and how to stay grounded and practical when things do not go according to plan.
I bring that same approach to my work as a full-spectrum doula. I am deeply committed to client-centred care and to creating space for lives, bodies, relationships, and families that do not always fit neatly within the systems and traditions surrounding them.
My role is to help you feel supported enough to be vulnerable, ask questions, make decisions, clarify what matters to you, and move toward your goals in a way that feels genuinely your own. As a queer doula, I especially value creating affirming space for queer and trans people, solo parents, multi-parent and polyamorous families, chosen families, and other non-traditional family structures.
I’m currently in the process of completing my full-spectrum doula certification through Doula School of Canada and continuing to grow my practice through ongoing training and hands-on experience.
I’m originally from Northwestern Ontario and have called Montreal home for more than six years. I’m primarily anglophone, with basic conversational French and good comprehension. While my practice is based in Montreal, I’m also able to travel outside the city for prenatal appointments, births, and other in-person support depending on location.
